Tried this a few days ago:
1. Ronco del Gnemiz Schioppettino Dd'OC: Friuli Colli Orientali (13.5%; GiulianaImprts/Boulder) SanGiovanni al Natisone 2017: Med.color; very strong cracked black pepper/Schio/black cherry cola/very spicy slight earthy fairly complex nose; quite tart very strong cracked black pepper/Schio/black cherry cola/DrPepper/very spicy quite structured light earthy fairly complex flavor w/ some tangy tannins; very long/lingering very strong cracked black pepper/black cherry cola/DrPepper/classic Schio/RCCola/very spicy fairly tart light earthy quite structured some complex finish w/ ample chewey tannins; a classic example of Schioppettino; needs 4-8 yrs of age; beautiful Schio.
$43.00 (AV)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Schioppettino is the grape resurected from the extinct by Paolo Rapuzzi at Ronchi de Cialla. They still make my gold standard for Schioppettino, but this one is a close second. Schio and PicolitNeri are my two favorite reds from Friuli, ahead of Refosco, because they generally have more structure. Heck....even the Merlots from Friuli are...not so bad.
