WTN: Singing in the Reyn

by Jenise » Thu May 07, 2020 3:52 pm

Last night with smoked lamb tacos:

2013 Reynvaan Family Vineyards Syrah The Contender Walla Walla Valley
Surprised at the lack of stuffing in the '13 Stonessence, we pulled this Contender to see if the softness was across the board, and it seems to be. It's drinking very well now with the usual Rocks funk plus berry fruit, baked fennel and cumin notes. Wasn't flabby but the acids and tannins are more in the background than I'd have liked. Drink by 2022, but sooner than later.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Darn -- I have one "In the Rocks" from 2013 but it's still in Chicago. Was hoping we'd have the cellar here up and running in time for fall transport of the wine, but everything's been slowed down (=brought to a screeching halt) by the pandemic...
cheers, Patchen

And we're still singing:

Last night I opened:

2010 Reynvaan In The Rocks
Opaque purple-black color. Saturated aromas and flavors of black fruit, black olive tapenade, sage, bacon and baked fennel. This wine has evolved beautifully--the little sample sip I took after pulling the cork to confirm the wine's readiness for drinking almost made me cry. It was SO good. Drinks optimally right out of the bottle (no sediment) but it will hold here for years to come. Very different from the '13 Contender's red fruit. In fact, in taste, weight and every other way, it's a closer relative to the Two Vintners Syrah I posted about separately than any of the Reynvaan '13's I've had.
