I was looking at the 2018 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling *** Trocken Grosses Gewachs and saw the note:"fermented and aged in a 3 year-old Fuder cask for 10 months." Seems like any oak influence would take away from the wine, but have people had oaked Selbachs? What did you think?

I haven't had, but up until last 20 years I'd think most MSR wine was fermented in fuder, and some would be brand new. I think 3 year old 1000L fuder would have quite minimal apparent oak. But that's just my gut, no knowledge or tasting.

It does not function as new oak. First of all it hold a huge amount of wine. Secondly it has been filled and refilled with water numerous times before it is ever used for wine.
It does not make oaky wine.
