WTN: Old Ghost 'Old Vine' Zinfandel 2012

2012 Klinker Brick Zinfandel Old Vine Old Ghost (USA, California, Central Valley, Lodi)

I was given this at an AWS Conference some years ago and have hesitated to open it. Why? Very small on the back label it says it is 15.9% abv. So a real bruiser. But I understand that USA taxes wine at a higher rate from 16% abv upwards, so I thought the convenient 15.9 might actually be higher.

Anyway, Jo insisted on having hamburger last night so what's more AAmerican to have with hamburger than Zinfandel, and it's now 7 years since vintage so I opened it. Lovely embossed label, big thick impressive bottle with serious punt with a round ball at the centre top.

Wine was very drinkable, though there was a portiness about it. Dark red and a bit jammy but as I was aware of the alcohol I couldn't really enjoy it.

Peter, this was accidentally posted in Friends & Fun, so I took the liberty of bringing it over from The Basement to The Wine Cellar. :)
