What Have You Got to Saia?

Feudo Maccari makes this Nero d'Avola , aged in French oak, in Sicily.

2011 Saia - quite dark in colour, with a nose of dark fruit, fairly concentrated with some cocoa/vanilla hints in the nose, medium weight with some plummy fruit and forest floor going in mid palate. Medium length. Good wine, at an appropriate age..

Back to the wine, sounds somewhat interesting--'somewhat' as I have never had a nero d'avola that turned my crank. Most have been fairly boring. Usually lots of that vanillin note, which I dislike, and very little complexity to offset it.

I said vanillin, not vanilla milkshake. :)
