  • 2014 Idlewild Nebbiolo Fox Hill Vineyard - USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County (4/22/2020)
A vigorous splash decant, and then two hours of air before I had my first sip. From that point on it got more rewarding with every little bit of time. Bright red fruit, crushed herbs, and floral tones on the nose, the fruit combined with a hint of licorice and mint on the palate, then combined with ample acidity, and finishing tannins to create a complete, refreshing, satisfying whole. The mint and herbs emerged more on the nose over time, while the fruit deepened on the palate, highlighting the California origin, while still remaining true to Nebbiolo.

p.s. I spent a fantastic hour+ on FaceTime this afternoon with Sam Bilbro and Tom DeBiase of Idlewild. It was great conversation, and opportunity to get to know Sam "in person" (so much as we can do these days), and renew in person with Tom. If you don't know these guys and the wines please take the opportunity to try some Idlewild.
