WTN: Gunderloch Nackenheim Rothenberg Riesling Spätlese 2005

Lockdown Wine #15. Screw cap bottle. Gold. Oddly, not a lot going on in the nose. Palate is fantastic, though. Red apple, apple skin, tarte tatin, honey, peach, pineapple, dried mango, general yellow tropical fruits, a bit of orange marmalade as it warms up. Fine balance between the sweetness and acidity. Exceptional length. Outstanding.

Slam dunk with Peking duck. More than a match for the hoisin sauce, and the acidity has no problem cutting through the fat. Superb pairing, and the best one of the lockdown period so far.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

Nice. I'm unlikely to make that match with my last remaining bottle of 2005 Auslese (I'm pescatarian). But I can see how it worked well!

Jay, enjoyed the note! Long time since I've had one of these, but it's probably my favorite riesling ever. When Bob and I lived in Anchorage and had to fly down to Seattle for medical care, we'd book a table at a pan-Asian restaurant called Wild Ginger and go there straight from the airport. That wine (earlier vintage, of course) paired with fresh Dungeness crab in a Burmese curry sauce? One of my favorite restaurant dishes EVER.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

I thought I had some of this. Turns out it’s the gold capsule version. Better get extra hoisin with my duck!
