WTN: An OR Gruner & A Rose.....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sat Apr 18, 2020 4:51 pm

Had these two for dinner last week:
1. Ridgecrest GrunerVeltliner RidgecrestVnyd/RibbonRidge/WillametteVlly/OR (15.3%; www.RidgeCrestWines.com) Founder/Harry Peterson-Nedry; Winemaker: Wynne Peterson-Nedry 2018: Light yellow/gold color w/ small bubbles that dissapate; low-key GV/white pepper/slight floral/spicy slight chalky pleasant nose; fairly tart/tangy/bit citric/grapefruit light/low-key GV/white pepper/floral slight chalky/citric pleasant flavor; long light GV/white pepper/floral chalky/tangy/grapefruity finish; a low-impact GV about the level of the Tangent GV; pleasant enough GV about the level of a commodity Austrian GV; pricey at $26.00 (AV)
__________
2. LeGrenouille Rougante AC: Mendo Pink Vin Rose du Pays ("blushing frog"; 70 yr old Carignane + Rutherford Valdigue; 12.2%) Frog'sLeap/RUtherford 2019: Pale copper/salmon color; pleasant raspberry/strawberry/cherry/Carignane light earthy nose; lightly tart pleasant strawberry/raspberry/cranberry/Carignane some earthy/dusty/OV flavor w/ little tannins; med.long Carignane/cherry/strawberry some dusty/OV/earthy finish w/ light tangy tannins; a fairly pleasant rose that speaks of dusty/OV Carignane. $17.25 (AV)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Ridgecrest: Given the ripeness of this GV, I was expecting a bit more intensity. Somewhat disappointing.

I keep trying domestic gruners; when from Austria, it's one of the most fascinating white grapes possible. But I have yet to find an American version that performs better than what you describe here, have you?
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Yup, Jenise... the Carlisle is about the best. The Solminer pretty good as well.
