This is a bottling just labeled JP Moueix? The generic Moueix (I guess they're using JP instead of Christian now) bottlings are usually solid if unexciting. But I'd be very wary of any Lussac-St. Emilion (or other satellite appellation) in 2003. My impression is that the St Emilions (proper) that did well were the ones from the limestone hills, and there was much less sucess with the sandier soils. And if I'm not mistaken Lussac is a sandier, flatter area. If price is right ($10 is probably fair) I'd try one, then decide. HTH.

No, no other indication than Jean Pierre Moueix, Grand Vin de Bordeaux. No chateau, nothing like that.

We had it for dinner tonight, with breaded pork chops.

First impression, tannic and not much else.

Second impression, more fruit than I'd thought at first, and plenty of acid. Not a particularly intense or impressive nose, no particular scents I can identify. With dinner, it went pretty well, and seemed much more balanced. Now that dinner's over, the tannins are reasserting themselves. All in all, it seems quite young. Questionable if there is enough fruit to warrant aging until the tannins mellow, but, at $3.99 the bottle, the only real cost is cellar space, which might be better used for other bottles. I may go back, and see if there are any left. Might be a decent, if lightweight, quaff in five years or so.
