Edmunds St John, Syrah, El Dorado County, 'Wylie-Fenaughty', 2005
The Cellartracker note about prune juice was correct: tastes like an old Amarone, stewed fruit and all, varietally not like syrah at all. 14.6% Disappointed and unrated. Although "Produced and bottled by Thirsty Pagans with big ideas", the pagans failed this go round.

Edmunds St. John, Syrah, El Dorado County, 'North Canyon Road', 2013
12.9% Still a purplish cast to the color. Salty plum, leafy, fresh and juicy with good acidity in a mid-weight format...this is more like it and has the typical elegance Steve's wines have. There is a slight floralness, lilac or violet, on the end. Very delicious right now, but not a lot of structure to age more than a few more years. A-

As mentioned elsewhere, I will dig out a 2005 sometime, and see. I have never had that reaction to the wine.

Looking at the various CellarTracker notes, you had to cherry pick to get one to match your impressions. At age 15 there are likely to be a bunch of up and down for any number of reasons. Calling it a failure is more than a little unfair.
