Tried this last weekend w/ Susan:
1. Ronco del Gnemiz Serena Pallazzolo e Figli Malvasia DOC: Friuli Colli Orientali (13.5%; GiulianaImports/Boulder) San Giovanni al Natisone 2018: Med.gold color; fairly strong floral/Malvasia/gardenias/slight muscatty slight woody/fresh sawdust light stony/mineral quite attractive nose; fairly tart/tangy bit metallic/steely fairly strong Malvasia/floral/gardenias light stony/mineral/earthy quite pretty flavor; very long tart/tangy light stony/mineral fairly strong Malvasia/floral/gardenias slight muscatty finish; quite an attractive/good-drinking expression of Malvasia; a bit pricey at $31.00 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. This is, of course, the variety Malvasia d'Istriana, rather than the usual Malvasia Bianca. I typically much prefer Md'Istriana to Malvasia Bianca. It typically shows much less of the tutti-fruity character of MB and more of a stony/mineral character. Malvasia d'Istriana evolved down in Croatia on the Istrian Pennisula and is fairly common in Croatian wines. But the best examples come from Friuli in my experience.
