Late nite with pesto I opened a 2015 Mount Eden Estate Chardonnay. I owned no real special white wines ( think 10+ year old Newton Unfiltered) or old Meursault so went with this. It was excellent if young with more minerality than fruit but wonderful balance. My only bottle Boo Hoo!
Tonight with a simple spaghetti and Italian sausage meal I opened a 2016 Janasse V.V. Chateauneuf du Pape. This was a mind-boggling experience with tons of fruit and excellent acid to balance. Very little going on with the nose but the palate was very full and acids and tannins in balance with raspberry and black raspberry fruit in abundance. This wine was quaffable. The wine needs 10+ years to start to reveal itself. The Chaupins consumed a few months ago was nice but pales in comparison. Isolation has its rewards. Stay safe everyone!!
