WTN: Penfolds Koonunga Hill Seventy-Six 2009

Lockdown wine #7. Didn't really have too much expectation of this wine since the last one I had wasn't too memorable and this is several years after I had that one. Very dark purple. Youthful. Plum, cassis, blackberry. All fruit, maybe a hint of wood coming through. Rich, full-bodied. All black fruit on the palate. Sweet spices. Well balanced. Just the right amount of acid to keep it from being cloying. Soft tannins. Not a lot of length, but it's decent. No doubt the screwcap really preserved this well. Could probably go another 5 years or so.

An homage to the original Penfolds Koonunga Hill Claret, the first vintage of which was 1976. From what I understand, this is a better selection of grapes than the regular Koonunga Hill. Shiraz Cabernet blend.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.
