WTN: Chateau Musar 2008

by Jay Labrador » Sun Mar 29, 2020 8:37 am

Lockdown wine #6. After the Julienas disaster, went back to an old reliable. Very dark. Meaty, cocoa powder, resin. Not a lot of fruit action going on in the nose. Medium to full-bodied. Bright acid to give it some lift. Blackberry, slightly woody, savoury, touch herbal, soy sauce. Good length. Wonderful food wine, but also very nice to drink by itself. Tannins already soft. Quite enjoyable now. Paired with Turkish Kebabs.

I have a couple of bottles of '99 myself, but haven't had one in a while.Might be time to revisit.

I don't have experience with the '07, but Jancis Robinson's tasting note says "Drink 2025 - 2042"

There is restaurant near me. "The best in the area". Which leaves me to wonder about the other restaurants. Anyway, it's 5-minutes from the house an always has a seat at the bar (before CoronApocalypse). The food is mediocre at best and the wine list is insipid. However, they do have a couple of good items on the menu and a bottle or two of wine that I can drink.

The first wine was a CdP from La Nerthe. I know, it isn't what you would call a great wine, but I liked it. They ran out of it and never got anymore. The second was Chateau Musar. I had been drinking CM for quite a few years. I really like it. And when you tell people that it is your favorite wine from the Beqaa Valley, they just cocked their head to the side like a dog.

(Not so) sadly, this place is closed for the duration. What really surprises me though is that the other restaurants in their fold are head and shoulders above this one.
