I bought a case of this when it was first released, and last night I opened one to see how it's doing 30 years on. I'd say it's just coasting into its prime drinking plateau. I intentionally aerated it when I poured the glass from the wine dispenser, and I let it sit 1/2 hour before tasting it. The color is amazingly dark for a 30-year-old wine. It's a translucent reddish-purple with a bit of brick around the edges. Wonderful Northern Rhone Syrah aromas, on the youngish side, and still somewhat closed in. Flavors showing both power and a graceful balance. No rough tannins, and acidity that doesn't bite, but carries the flavors through a long finish. This wine will only get better over the next decade, Double Curly Larry (that Larry will turn into a Curly in 10 years or so).
