WTN: Dinner with Trump's Son

No not Donald Jr. but :2000 Pichon Baron Bordeaux. In this time of self-imposed isolationism it is time for me to bring out the top shelf wines, anything to relieve the boredom and add a little spark to our lives. This wine did not fail me as a previous bottle did past July. Very dark purple with a great nose of sweet cherry and new leather and herb, the palate followed with tannins that were 90% resolved. The wine improved over the 2 hr. meal of simple meat loaf and baked potato. abv of %13. I had a young version of this wine with Ol' Willie a few years ago and it seemed to have more fruit but less complexity. Would I pay $220 now for this wine.....NO..... but it was a pleasure to drink. I might have 1 or 2 more bottles. Lots of future for this wine.

When the 2000s came out this was the best one I tasted, including some of the firsts. It blew people away.

Oh Jim, what a lovely wine. Pichon Baron is one of my very favorites. I recall my first, a million years ago, lucking into a bottle on the shelf of a small wine store/restaurant (buy the bottle, pay $5 corkage) in Oregon. Every bottle since has been as magical. I've never had the luxury of plenty in high end Bordeauxs, but it's possible that if the growth system didn't exist to influence me, PB would be a favorite even among the Firsts.

Keep treating yourself well!
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
