WTN: Vieux Telegraphe La Crau Chateauneuf du Pape 2007

Plenty of time to post notes. This is wine #2 of the lockdown.

Lots of sediment stuck to the bottle. Very dark, youthful. Floral, meaty, sweet spices on the nose. Richly textured. Sweet black berry. Ripe fruit. A little jammy, but not a bad thing here. Somewhat international in style. I don't think I would be able to pick this out as Chateauneuf, or even French, in a blind tasting. Very soft tannins, but a good amount of acidity for balance. Impressive length. Good wine, but not what I expected. From a half bottle.

Paired with couscous, lamb chops, and merguez sausage.

Thanks, Jay! That's one of my favorites.

I hope everything is going well for you under the lockdown. At least it's good to be drinking well!

Hi Robin,

Can't complain. So many others have it much, much worse. Keep safe!

J-lab, interesting that you call it "International". I called it "California" style, but I think we mean the same thing. The ripeness of the vintage kind of buried the classic old school-ness of the typical VT, but at the same time it did so without being as gobby as many/most of the vintage.

Hi Jenise. Yes, yes. Same same! Thinking about it now, I maybe should have said New World in style.
