WTN: Isolation begins with riesling

by Rahsaan » Sun Mar 15, 2020 2:14 pm

Friday night we had friends over for delicious beers (which I provided) and crappy wine (which they provided). But apparently that kind of behavior is criminally irresponsible. So yesterday we switched to family and my last bottle of 2012 Rebholz im Sonnenschein Ganz Horn Riesling GG.

The last few bottles I've opened of this were at group dinners. They always showed well but it was nice to get a final shot at watching it slowly develop over the evening. Actually, it was more than nice. Elegant, mineral, savory, focused and fragrant. No idea how long these can age, but no regrets about drinking this last bottle when the mellowed harmony has knitted things together but the dancing minerals are still very much alive.

Overall, a lovely restrained-yet-expressive take on riesling, which is what I like so much about Rehbolz.

One of these days I have to give Rebholz another shot.

Nice note Rahsaan. Take care in isolation.

Yes, lovely note, Rahsaan. I'm not much in touch with health developments in the USA. Are the universities closed yet? The reports which we get over here make it seem that the US response so far has been rather chaotic.

Best wishes to you and your family.

It varies by state and locality, but the universities have (mostly) moved online and the primary/secondary schools are closed for at least a few weeks. But assuming that European developments are in our future, it appears that a broader lockdown is on the way! Crazy stuff. And yes, chaotic and poorly-led is a good description for our fine country! Good luck in France, at least you have some grounds to stroll through (compared to city dwellers).

Buffoon-in-chief Donald Trump has done immeasurable harm with his ill-informed blather. He really does not show any leadership which is distressing. The provinces here in Canada are doing their best but the lack of concerted leadership by our national govt is sad.
