2016 Dirty and Rowdy Mourvèdre Antle Vineyard[/url] - USA, California, Central Coast, Chalone (3/12/2020)
First red wine since my surgery...I would have been happy to just smell it. The aromatics were intoxicating. Red fruit, cinnamon, orange zest, wet stone, worn leather, moist dirt and flowers all together and one by one. Bright on the palate, precise at first, it fanned out on the finish to echo the nose.

Sounds wonderful. Tell us, did abstinence make your faculties more acute?

I was thinking the same thing. It must have. The first wine after any break always seems more detailed and alive than the nth wine in a session.

Yes, to an extent. The Selbach-Oster (posted in another thread) was my first, and the initial sips were frankly bizarre. I chalk that up to messed up receptors. Once I got my head around things it was quite delightful, as was this Mourvèdre.
