WTN: Weekend wines- Rhine, NSG, Macon, Pomerol, Champagne

With lamb chops, mushroom ravioli, and broccoli with red pepper, the 2001 La Grave a Pomerol. Ready, plush without being too soft, black plum accented with coffee and a little mushroom/earth. B/B+

With oysters, lemon sole, rice, asparagus with miso butter (too early for asparagus, but sometimes you have to eat imported) and salad 2016 Thibert “ Champs Ronds” St. Veran
Fairly full, ripe, pear and lemon, not too long. Could use a bit more verve. B-

Attended a fun concert (chamber music, all new pieces by a variety of composers, each based on a comment card from a shelter resident after a concert), then had some family members for dinner

Smoked bluefish on purple daikon or watermelon radish, some lomo
2005 Andre Beaufort Brut Grand Cru Champagne.
Yeast rolls, very sweet, soft. OK but lower dosage would be appreciated. B-/C+

Corned beef & cabbage (and potatoes, carrots, leeks)
2014 Keller RR Riesling
Just off-dry, very tropical fruit, big and powerful, but not super precise. Others liked more. B

2005 Chevillon“Vaucrains” Nuits St. Georges 1er

Young but beginning to climb out of shell. Improves throughout night. Black raspberry and cherry, accents of smoke, mocha, and a little forest floor. Still a mouthful of tannin, but the big fruit and bright acid make it quite manageable. A-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C
drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
