Ah, the joys of finding stuff you bought long ago and forgot

2007 Pepiere “Clos des Briords” Muscadet

This was never supposed to be a long lived Briords, but this is just fine over 3 nights.
Sweet lemon, saline/seashell, light and refreshing. B+

2002 Tortochot “Lavaux St. Jacques” Gevrey-Chambertin 1er
Don’t really know producer, but must have bought for a reason (HDH, 2008,. $27). Nicely balanced, black cherry with some Gevrey dirt, just a touch of tannin remaining on finish. Nice, and I’ll drink other bottle soon. B+/B

2003 Sella Lessona
Don’t think I would have picked this for Nebbiolo if blind, but it was tasty and surprisingly balanced for a 2003 (13.5%). Round red fruit, smoky, soft acids, maybe (since I know Piedmont), I can think I detect a little tar. B/B+

2000 Lava Cap “granite Hill” Petite Sirah
Blueberry jam meets cheap plum brandy. Hot, cracking up. Maybe better 10 years ago. Maybe not. C/C+

3 out of 4 not bad.

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C
drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

I am still sitting on 5 bottles of 2005 Briords. Not sure when I will even get to them. Have a 2007 Clisson in magnum as well. That sounds like this summer.

Speaking of Briords, had the '18 in a restaurant this weekend. Delicious, but none of the saline/seashell refreshment. I recommended it to the other non-geeks at the table but felt obliged to tell them that it was obviously from a warm year and had a somewhat atypical character, which only added to the 'connoisseur' comments. But what can you do...

I thought while ripe/fruity the '18 Briords still maintained some oyster shell qualities. I didn't think it one to age, but thought same of '05 and '07, and was wrong.

Good to hear. One should never underestimate Briords. And of course I did not have the most analytical engagement with the wine.
