Crazy high scores from the Usual Critics for the Tignanello 2013. Decided to see what all the fuss was about so I opened up a half-bottle.
Inky and impenetrable when poured, Left it in the glass for about an hour to air.
Very nice after an hour in the glass. Exotic spice box aromas - anise, cardamom, nutmeg, clove, roasted meat, blackberry, currants. On the palate, roasted meat, currants, and blackberry again, but no spice. Quite a bit of acidity. Not dense but flavors aren't too generous. Dry, savoury. Long finish. Tannic Needs time to open up. Decant for maybe 3 to 4 hours if you must drink now, or better leave alone for the next 5 years or so.
Good wine now with lots of potential, but not really convinced about the scores of 94 and above. I did pour off about 200ml into a small bottle and will give that a try after 3 days or so and see how it's coming along.
