WTN: Romorantin

Pascal Bellier Cour-Cheverny 2018 - 100% Romorantin; 13% abv; c.20€
I haven't had enough Romorantin but this seemed perfectly nice - relatively speaking that is. Everyone knows Chenin and S. Blanc as the Loire white grapes but the few Romorantins I've had have been of such quality that maybe this grape should be mentioned alongside those more illustrious ones. This producer isn't well known (which is why it's available here) but it's good. It has kinda neutral aromas but in the good way: it's all hay and minerals with some slight floral hint every so often peeking its shy aromas out into the open. Pretty rich and broad palate on first taste but the acidity just keeps on unfurling itself and the finish is just radiant and lingering and opens up like that cliché of the peacock's tail. So when I say this is not among the best of the Romorantins I've tried, maybe it really can be a special grape. Buy more of this not-so-special version? Since it's the only one available here, hell yeah! I love it.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

We really enjoyed the several Romorantins we had in the Loire. They are hard to find here, complicated by the fact that wines labelled Cheverny are from the same region but are Sauvignon Blanc. You have to look for Cour-Cheverny.

I say I love Romorantin, but close to all my experience is Cazin C-C so maybe I just like that? But the ones I like are like Chardonnay meets Chenin Blanc.
