WTN: Kuentz-Bas Riesling '17....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Feb 17, 2020 3:21 pm

Tried this over the weekend:
1. Kuentz-Bas Riesling AC: Alsace (13.5%; www.Kuentz-Bas.Fr; KermitLynch) Husseren Les Chateaux 2017: Light gold color; strong floral/R/mango some minera/chalky classic Alsace R bit simple fragrant nose; lightly tart bit rich slightly off-dry (0.5% r.s.?) pleasant floral/mango/R slight chalky bit simple/bland flavor; med.long bit off-dry (label says dry...baloney) pleasant/floral/R/mango slight chalky finish; a pleasant enought Alsace R but the r.s. gives it a bit of a blandness; not the bracing acidity I like in a great Alsace R that can age; fairly enough priced at $13.60 (PrimaIlC)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. This was a new arrival in my Prima IlConsorzio shipment. I was expecting a bit more from a K-B but the slight r.s. pretty much took the edge of this wine. Back in the good ole days of ageable Alsace R, they always had a braceingly high acidity that actually made them a bit painful to drink at this age, but...man...did they age into great wines. This dullard will not.

Welcome to the world of climate change. Bracing acidity is no longer a trait of Alsace wines.
