2001 Kurt Darting Ungsteiner Herrenberg Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Pfalz (2/8/2007)
This is just starting to come out and play. There's lots of tropical fruit, and also a sort of burnished element that makes this taste more like Rieslaner than Riesling. Deep tropical fruit flavors, a touch of brown sugar and a long finish with a good hit of finishing acids. It's a very good wine with a few more years of upside before it plateaus. Considering the original $12 cost this is a screaming value.
