2001 Meulenhof Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (2/1/2020)
Riding a plateau of maturity that it arrived at a few years ago, this shows the lemon cream and apple of Sonnenuhr, along with a textural creaminess and now the beginnings of a honeyed spice. The acid spine keeps it lively, and it’s a mid-weight Auslese, not some bruising, declassified dessert wine. It’s a food wine, especially if the food, like our Indian Dal, has a bit of heat. Drink this anytime over the next 20 years.
