WTN: Neleman Macabeo

I'm so thirsty for "natural" wine I'll even try the weird ones imported here that no one seems to have heard about. Tonight it was Neleman Macabeo 2018 from Valencia, Spain. 12% abv and c.16€. It was perfectly enjoyable though frankly I have no idea why it's sold as a "natural" wine. It has a clean scent, nothing stereotypically "natural" about it, quite neutral but pleasant aromas, slightly nutty. Full body for such low abv, pretty decent acidity, I really like the richness balanced by such moreish structure. But like the scent, it is pretty neutral.

Now I love neutral wines that transcend neutrality and become something magical and understated. The best Muscadet and Chablis can be like this. This Macabeo isn't. It's fun, it's balanced, it's moreish, it makes me happy but it isn't magical. Buy again? Probably not at this price. 5€ cheaper and I'd buy it on every single hot summer day of the year.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

Here's a pretty useless response: isn't it fun to say macabeo? Would be a good name for an island.

But I know what you mean about that transcendence, though. It's wonderful when you find it.
