WTN: ZPC night

Local non-serious group Friday, theme was ZPC, we ended up with more Primitivo than Zinfandel, but no Crljenak Kastelanski. I had to pick up Betsy later, so was spitting (,000 on my new breathalyzer 30 minutes after leaving), which would have been harder in a grape I gravitate towards more. Roger had cheeses, speck, salami, whitefish salad, and boquerones out. Wines were blind, but I don’t have enough sense about styles to make real guesses

2017 Poggio Anima “LIlith” Primitivo (Salento)
Not a bad start. Tart berries, good acids, spicy. Not complex but fun,. B

2015 Polvanera Primitivo Giola de Colle 17
This on the other hand is my early candidate for worst wine of the year. Huge and hot (16.5) it’s not just the bottle that’s overly heavy,.Prune juice spiked with vodka. Some like. D

2014 Navarro Zinfandel (Mendocino)
Medium bodied, dark berries, a little spice. B-

2017 Valravn Zinfandel (Sonoma County)
Spice, a bit of cocoa, ripe but not overly jammyB-

(2015?) Ciccariello Primitivo del Salento
Sweet, lifted, a bit of nail polish, bitter clipped finish. C-

2017 Cline OldVines Zinfandel
Fresh easy, what you’d expect if you ordered a house Zin at a tavern. B-

2014 Tormaresca Primitivo Torcicoda Salento IGT
Very ripe, a little heat,.ok finish. B-/C+

2018 Fatalone Teres Primitivo (Puglia)
Very light color (looks like rose), raspberries and strawberries, leafy, I’d have never picked this as Xin/primitivo but I like. B

Good night for airport trip

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

I've had Valravn zin, a '15 Old Vines. Pretty big wine but it had plenty of stuffing.

Like your description of the Cline. Used to think well of the low $ end of this brand but in recent years they've seemed dilute and characterless. Didn't even make the entry point for 'fun'.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
