2018 Theo Minges Scheurebe Spätlese - Germany, Pfalz (1/5/2020)
Minges makes really good wine. I expected this to be good, I did not expect it to be great. Well, it's great. Boatloads of tropical fruit, mint and sage mark this as ripe Scheurebe, and it's 95% of the way to some of the great (e.g. 1998, 2001) Catoir Scheurebe Spatlese wines. Paired alongside a coconut curry with chickpeas, turmeric and mint (!), it was a perfect match that did the food/wine pairing magic trick of making each element better. Laura concurred with both the quality of the wine, as well as the quality of the pairing. Need to get more of this, both to guzzle down now, and to have for several years.
