WTN - Petite Sirah from EOS and Parducci

by Peter May » Wed Feb 07, 2007 6:34 pm

  • 2004 Parducci Petite Sirah - USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County (7/Feb/2007)
Wow, this is impenetrably dark , black colour. Not too much nose. Super bramble and blueberry flavours, chewy depth, medium long finish. Full bodied, a big wine with a surprisingly low 13.5%abv. Very moreish and attractive. After drinking it I checked the merchants site to see its a blend of 86% Petite Sirah, 12% Syrah, 1% Viognier & 1% Chardonnay ; I'm guessing the last two were co-fermentations. I really liked this. (I think this is the s'Signature' series PS)(90 pts.)
  • 2003 EOS Petite Sirah Reserve - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (1/Nov/2006)
Rich and ripe with violet perfume and flavours, backed by chocolate. Lovely wine -- maybe a little disjointed. I think I'll keep my remaining one for a while to see if it knits together. (85 pts.)

Hi Peter from Snorbens, you picked some nice ones there. I thought there might have been some downturns at Parducci lately but your post has renewed some faith. Eos rocks, what can one say!! Yeah, a couple of years is the norm for this one.

Thanks Peter. We have a '99 non-reserve that we are planning to open sometime this year. Will post.

Bob: While it's true that Parducci went through a downturn for a while, now that it's under the ownership and management of Paul Dolan, I'd look for it to regain some of the lost lustre. Look for the brand to come back again.

I had the Parducci last night, and didn't care for it.

I found it rather unbalanced in the direction of tannins, with not a lot to balance them. I kept expecting it to get better in the glass and/or decanter, but, if anything, it got worse. I won't be buying it again.

I wonder if it was the same bottling. I must say I am confused by Parducci and their website doesn't help.

I tasted a 2004 Parducci PS earlier this month and was most unimpressed with it and concerned because I had some on order - which is the wine I refer to above (which had some Syrah etc in it), but the wine at the tasting, accordingto the info I was given, was 100% PS

The wine I bought, described above, has a label as shown on the Parducci website - http://www.mendocinowinecompany.com/Parducci.html - under the heading 'Signature'

The web site doesn't mention the 2004 vintage.

Anyway I thought it super (we don;t see too much PS here) and I'd buy somemore except Oddbins has sold out
