Supernova in Stresa

by ChaimShraga » Wed Oct 23, 2019 3:48 pm

A romantic vacation to North Italy started out on the wrong foot when I left my Kindle on the plane. The worst place to lose anything because it’s dead center in a No Man’s land where the airline and the airport have both been telling me in broken English to go talk to the other party. It was time to upgrade anyway and I think the ebooks are recoverable, but it sucks being stuck in the middle of three books and no access to them.

The crappy karma evened out. I have our dining and wining itenerary worked out once we reach Piedmont but I was worried about Stresa. I was sure it was going to be tourist trap hell and it is, but somehow I found a very fine establishment, Vicoletto, which has a great wine list in addition to excellent food. And they had the following by the glass:

Traversa, Barbaresco, Ca nova, Riabot, 2013

Tar, dry roses, dry cherries, a gaminess half way between leather and truffles, tame tannins that are not sleek or modern, just well refined, with no loss of edge or focus. Wonderful. Top class complexity and breed.

That's too bad about the loss, Chaim, but the good news is that your books are definitely recoverable. As soon as you sign in to your Amazon account on your new device, there they'll be, along with any notes or annotations you've made.

You probably already know this, but you can also load the free Kindle app on your smartphone, tablet, or desktop computer and access and read your books there.

Here's the Apple App Store link:

And the Google Play link for Androids:

Actually, I didn’t! So a big thanks!

I’m shocked this happened to me because I’m usually very obsessive about checking I didn’t forget to put it in my bag.

So sorry about the computer! Bob's always leaving stuff in planes and airports, or at least trying to--he's fortunate to be married to an obsessive counter and I always know how many objects must be collected before we leave a given location.

Wine sounds great. Am impressed that a '13 is showing so well already. I'm always scared to death to open my nebbs early.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
