Georgian Chinebuli and Michigan Marsanne

by Dan Smothergill » Mon Oct 14, 2019 9:22 pm

We brought home some wine from the Republic of Georgia earlier this year, including a 2016 Chiche Chinebuli (also known as Chinuri). It had been aged in oak for 6 months and was unfiltered. Most Chinebuli/Chinuri including this one is from the Kartli region around Gori. A flowery nose with nice acidity and a delightfully long aftertaste of bitter almonds. It reminded us of Berrien Cellars Marsanne (Michigan). We compared the two side by side and indeed they were greatly similar, especially in the almonds after taste.
