Nervi 1964 Gattinara. A local shop was offering a stash of old Nebbiolo last year and I grabbed two bottles, including this one. Medium orange on opening, deepening to dusky cranberry a couple of hours later. Remarkably fresh and lively, with a touch of VA on the nose, dried red cherry fruit, brandy, spice, tar, and fennel. Picked up depth and character as we consumed it. I’d never have thought this was 55 years old; it still had verve and balance and life. Excellent luck!
