WTN: 2001 Château La Fleur de Boüard

2001 Château La Fleur de Boüard - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Lalande de Pomerol (2/6/2007)
This is still a very young wine, but it has come together nicely, with supple fruit, unobtrusive oak (especially compared to the wine on release) and a firm backbone of tannins. Drinks well now, but has the fruit and structure to age for several more years. Quite tasty, and a bargain at under $20.

Good report, might make me bold. I have gotten nervous about trying any of my 01's for fear they're all closed.

This one is not. Of course the last glass on night two was even better, so a decant might be in order.

Another 2001 that seems to be softening is the Cap de Faugeres, and an improvement over a bottle that I tried last year.

Yes, the Cap is showing quite well now. I only have three bottles left fro ma case I bought a few years ago. It's still a great value wine.

The Cap is? Good info, thanks. I have a couple. Also have one 2000 left that if I 'member right David said would be showing best about now. Should drink one of each soon, that should make an indelible impression where the bottle or two I've had over the years has failed to create a baseline impression of what this wine intends to be at all.

I did a comparison of the '00, '01 and '03 Cap de Faugeres about a year ago. I liked the '01 the best. Cap de Faugeres to me is one of those places that in really ripe years tries to make a "big" wine. In leaner years they end up with something more to my taste, as I like the balance better.
