Jack Daniel's Tennessee Apple - would you try it?

by Robin Garr » Tue Oct 01, 2019 9:47 am

As a deep-rooted native in the Napa Valley of bourbon  I'm not a huge fan of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey, even if it is owned by a Louisville bourbon distiller now. But I'm trying to decide whether I'm revolted or intrigued by Jack Daniel's Tennessee Apple, a blend of JD's finest with apple liqueur that rolls out today. How about you? A drink you'd try, or one that you'd leave on the shelf?

Brown-Forman wrote:The Jack Daniel Distillery introduces Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Apple, a blend of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey with finely crafted apple liqueur. The newest member of the Jack Daniel’s family launches nationally in October.

Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Apple is crafted from Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, charcoal mellowed and matured in new American oak barrels, and apple liqueur made from the highest quality ingredients to deliver a delicious Jack Daniel’s experience. Jack Apple is a deliciously smooth and refreshing apple-flavored whiskey that’s uniquely Jack.

“Mr. Jack was known for being an innovator and always exploring how to do things differently, including adding different flavors and ingredients,” said Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Jeff Arnett. “Tennessee Apple couples the character of our Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey with the taste of crisp, green apples. It’s like a freshly picked apple in a glass of Jack.”

At 70 proof, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Apple features a perfect blend of green apples enhanced by the sweet bold notes of Jack. It hits shelves nationally October 1 in 50 ml, 375 ml, 750 ml and 1-liter bottle sizes with a suggested retail price of $26.99 for 750 ml.

Trick question because the chance of me buying any Jack Daniel's product is pretty close to zero.

But, I wouldn't mind a taste if you're buying!

I did think the idea of blending a brown liquor with a fruit liqueur was interesting, though. A lot of room for error and a narrow path to success, maybe, but in theory it could be ... interesting?

I have very mixed feelings about this. I dislike JD products but love the thought of this. When I was running a high end bar we used to do an Old Fashioned variation which used a mix of Buffalo Trace and Laird's Straight Apple Brandy and it was killer. So I know Whiskey and Apple Brandy can work together, but I am afraid they are trying to make something to compete with the flavored vodka's out there, especially because it is 70 proof, and that is much less interesting.

Not surprised by this: appletini's have become popular cocktails.

Just guessing the blend adds a huge dollop of sweetness, which is appealing to today's drinkers.

A long time ago I was a big fan of whisky and whiskey. At that time we almost no American whiskey for sale so I bought when I visited the US and in duty free shops and duty free on planes.

I quite liked Jack Daniels - it epitomised the US to me - but preferred Jim Beam. But I bought a bottle of anything I saw that I hadn't tried.
