Dinner last night was lamb shanks in an onion/clove/chive sauce over dill-and-berbere mashed potatoes. The dish cried out for Southern Rhone so I chose:
2008 Domaine Brusset Gigondas Tradition Le Grand Montmirail Red Rhone Blend
5th and last bottle drunk since 2013 and not a decent, satisfying one in the lot. This one: purple, harsh and on the edge of oxidation with notes of asphalt, blackberry and prune. Struggled over one glass with the food and then dumped the rest.
