Opened last night to accompany a satisfaying one-dish meal consisting of layers of potato, ground lamb, cabbage and tomatoes with fenugreek and fresh mint baked under cover for two hours.
2004 M. Chapoutier Côte-Rôtie Les Bécasses Syrah
I believe I recall that Parker panned this wine. Well, whatever it was like young he was wrong about it now: it's gorgeous. Youthful dark color with garnet edges, heavenly nose with lots of garrique and leather, elegant Rhonish fruit on the midpalate and a long finish. The last and best of three bottles (consumed in 2017): wish I had more.
