2008 Louis Boillot Gevrey-Chambertin Champonnet
I can see, smell, taste and sense the clear violet fruit underneath, and it is very nice. But it is surrounded by structure. At first it is a wall of tannin. With air that recedes and it provides some nice wine moments with dinner. But then the hard acid structure comes on strong and the overall message is not one of harmony or maximum joy. I have more and I guess there is no option but to wait and keep hoping for the best...

Tough vintages of the past have come through after many years. The question is how long are you willing to wait?

Fair enough. I suppose the other question is whether the upside is worth the wait. But, when they show like this, doesn't leave me with much choice!

Can offer no intel on the '08 vintage. I've had both good and bad. Coincidentally did have an '11 Boilllot Volnay standing up for tonight, but other more pressing needs meant I didn't open it. Not useful and only tangentially related, but at least someone else was thinking about Boillot Volnays tonight.
