Tried this last week:
1. Muller-Catoir Mussbacher Eselshaut Rieslaner Auslese Pfalz (8.0%; QmP; Ap.Nr. 5 174 079 16 96; TerryTheiseImprts) Reustadt 1995: Very dark/burnished bronze/almost black color; very intense botrytis/peachy/apricotty beautiful very complex old R nose; bit tart/tangy very sweet intense botrytis/peachy/apricotty/creme brulee very complex flavor; very long/lingering very grapey/botrytis/R/peachy/apricotty quite tangy/bit metallic/bit sour intensely sweet very complex finish; a beautiful example of an old BA wine.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Rieslaner is a late-ripening Sylvaner X Riesling cross developed in Franconia in 1921. The wine was surprisingly dark for 14 yrs old, more like an old Calif BA, but no signs of oxidation. Though labeled Auslese, it was ceretainly of a BA level. Terrific wine.

So it's 24 years old, not 14.

Rieslaner gets dark very quickly, especially when affected by significant botrytis. The 1995 actually met the requirements for TBA, though just barely.

Guess my math is not so good, David. Since the entire US Nuclear Arsenal rests on my shoulders, that should give
you a lot of confidence in it!!
