2014 Tamarack Cellars Counoise Ciel du Cheval Vineyard Red Mountain
Was so enamored with the six purchased last summer we blew thru them rather quickly (you know, that wine you have to show all your friends?) and bought six more when we visited the winery in April. Chose it to pair with stuffed pork chops last night. Shows more blue fruit now with some blueberries in the mix but the beguiling sweet spice and dusty tannins are as hypnotic as ever. Tamarack wines age well; bet these will hold in a cool cellar thru 2025.
Also, recently drank this:
2013 Sinclair Winery The Vixen, Walla Walla Valley
An unusual blend of syrah, mourvedre and petit verdot, this is a very pleasant Rhone style wine that drinks more like new world grenache than anything else though it doesn't contain a drop of that grape. Bought this at their WW tasting room this past April because I nearly always buy something, and have heard that the winery has since closed. Not a huge surprise based on the inconsistent set of wines poured in the TR and the out-of-whack pricing of their top wines ($100+) which IMO didn't match the quality in the bottles.
