WTN: another Flavor Gap wine

by Jim Grow » Mon Jul 01, 2019 8:02 pm

I am sure there are lots of full-flavored Chardonnays out there at 13.4% abv but this is not one of them. The Wind Gap Crown's Gap Vineyard Chardonnay 2015 from the Sonoma Coast came across as diluted with light pear fruit and slight minerality. I know that the Sonoma Coast can produce Chardonnays of much more intensity in complexity, fruit, acidity and abv ( think Chalk Hill) but somehow in a fine year like 2015 Wind Gap was either unable or not wanting to produce such a wine. I am done with them. I would not have bought this bottle but it came in a six-pack of other Chards that I really wanted.

The fact that you are done with them is meaningless, as the brand is no more.

Pax Mahle left Wind Gap in 2018.

Anyway, Syrah was always the sweet spot for Wind Gap.

I had a couple of bottles of this and though it a pretty good Chardonnay for $25, but I realized a while ago that my tastes and Jim's aren't closely aligned,. Chacun a son gout!

I've got two also but have yet to open any. BTW, I ordered six from Last Bottle (Jim you might have too) but four were the pinot instead. I didn't complain.

So I have nothing to offer except the useless observation that Wind Gap Crown's Gap would make a good racehorse name. :)
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
