2008 Wind Gap Wines Syrah Armagh Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (6/13/2019)
My last bottle, and of course the best showing for this wine. Popped and poured, and the still prominent fruit is buffered by meaty, smoky and earthy aromas. The palate presence is quite interesting, with a plush mouth feel, but a totally savory taste. There's fruit, but it's like a dried essence of blackberry, as if dried, powdered blackberry has been sprinkled atop roasted meat wrapped in smoky bacon. Tannins are still hanging in there, but there is plenty of depth to balance. I really wish I had bought more of this so that I could follow it for another 10 years.
