2012 Wind Gap Wines Syrah Nellessen Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (5/31/2019)
My last bottle of this wine was about five years ago, and it's moving along towards (but not yet at) a more mature phase. The primary fruit has backed off a bit, revealing more of the meaty, mineral core. Every once in a while I pick up (or maybe imagine) a smoky tone, but it comes and goes. What stands out is the purity or the wine. It's precise and focused, penetrating the senses. Acids and tannins are balanced such that they don't stand out, but it's clear they are present. Based on the wine's current development curve, as well as the substantial depth, I won't open another bottle for 2-3 years.
