WTN: Forlorn-Hope Moresque Picpoul '16...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon May 20, 2019 11:56 am

Tried this o'er the weekend from my latest stash of Matt's wines:
1. Forlorn-Hope Moresque Picpoul RorickVnyd/CalaverasCnty (skin-frmtd; 52 cs; 12.72%; www.ForlornHopeWines.com) 2016: Med.dark gold/burnished bronze slightly cloudy color; rather strong phenolic/resiny/skin-contact rather minerally/stony slight floral/orangey fairly complex nose; quite tart/acidic/tannic quite phenolic/resiny/skin-contact quite austere little fruit bit orangey slight earthy/stony flavor w/ ample hard/raspy tannins; very long very strong phenolic/skin-contact/resiny rather acidic/tannic/austere slight orangey finish; very much dominated by the phenolic/skin-contact character and rather austere/tannic on the palate; no fun to drink now and badly needs some assertive/spicy food with it. $32.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. This is, of course, the wnry of Matt Rorick. Maker of some very interesting wines. This wine speaks little of Picpoul and is dominated by the skin-contact/phenolic character. My suspicion that it will be a very interesting wine 5-10 yrs down the road.
