WTN: 2014 Waitsburg Cellars Cheninieres Chenin Blanc

Nothing subtle or delicate here. Instead, there is a big mouth feel followed by a lemon and lime taste that doesn't want to quit. How representative is this is of Washington Chenin? Ste. Michelle is pretty much it for Washington wines here. But based on a sample size of one, let me venture an analogy. As Loire Sauvignon Blanc is to NZ Sauvignon Blanc so Loire Chenin is to Washington Chenin. Feel free to disagree and point out mistakes. Can't wait to taste each of them.

That's probably an apt comparison. Waitsburg Cellars is the reason former Washington Wine critic for the Wine Enthusiast, Paul Gregutt, left that profession--to create Waitsburg Cellars. Best I understand it, he doesn't start with the grapes, he blends juice someone else makes and bottles it. The quality is determined by his palate, not his winemaking skill. As I write I'm being nagged by the idea that he sold the brand to one of the big industrial wine producers and is no longer involved. I'll have to check on that. Wouldn't surprise me to learn that it's CSM, which is why it's the other WA brand you see around.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
