WTN: rootdown CheninBlanc '17...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Fri May 10, 2019 10:28 am

Tried this last night w/ my Pizzoicheri pasta:
1. rootdown CheninBlanc HeringerVnyd/Clarksburg (12.4%; 20th roor; www.RootDownWineCellars.com) Mike Lucia/Sebastapol
2017
: Light yellow color; rather fragrant CB/ripe pear light earthy/chalky rather quiet nose; bit soft light CB/ripe pear/bit apple totally dry light earthy/chalky somewhat simple flavor; med.long ripe pear/apple/CB/slight floral slight chalky/earthy slight tangy/metallic rather simple finish; a pleasant enough/simple CB but just that and edging into vapid territory; pricey for what it is. $29.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. rootdown is the operation of Mike Lucia, mostly recently from Copain. Though he doesn't advertise himself as such, he'd probably be considered a "natural" winemaker. His focus is on single varietals from organic vnyds. The "rootdown" comes from his fascination for what the vine is sucking up from the soil and trying to express that in his wines.
