My Massican order arrived ystrday, so Pobega'd one:
1. Massican sauvignon NapaVlly (100% SauvBlanc; 13.7%) 2017: Pale gold color; very fragrant melony/herbal/SB/spicy bit stony/chalky/perfumed talc quite attractive very Friuli-like bit complex lovely nose; rather tart tangy some melony/SB/herbal/thyme fairly stony/chalky/perfumed talc Friuli-like SB flavor; very long/lingering rather herbal/SB/melony bit riper/lusher fairly tangy some chalky/perfumed talc/mineral finish; a lovely very Friuli-like SB; would not know it's from Calif if served blind; a bit like a good Steirmark SB but more interest & structure. $30.00

2. Massican sauvignon NapaVlly (13.5%) 2018: Pale gold color; less strong some herbal/weedy/SB/slight melony light stony/chalky more Calif-like nose; quite tart/tangy bit grapefruity/metallic much leaner/tight less stony/chalky more Calif SB-like flavor; long quite tart/tangy/bit metallic rather lean/tight bit grapefruity/slight pineapple finish; more Calif in style right now but not as rich/lush as most Calif SB's; seems a bit tightly wound & needing age. $30.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Massican is the wnry of DanPetroski making wines in a rather Friuli style. I'm not a huge fan of most Calif SB's, but his is one I like quite a lot. The '17 is very reminiscent of very good Friuli SB, in particular the MarcoFelluga...one of my favorites. The '18 seems pretty tight right now and will undoubtedly put on weight and evolve into something more akin to the '17.
