WTN: Three of a perfect pair

by David M. Bueker » Sat Apr 20, 2019 3:41 pm

2012 Bedrock Wine Co. Syrah Exposition Three Weill Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley (4/19/2019)
Popped and poured at a restaurant, this was open and giving tons of pleasure from nearly the first sip. It took about ten minutes to shake off time in bottle, then the rich, plummy fruit took center stage, supported by floral tones and a light touch of citrus. The brighter elements of the Viognier kept the richness of the Syrah in balance, and added a sleek element to the mid-palate. We ended up bringing about a third of the bottle back home, and finished it off about an hour later. The Syrah depths of the wine took on more focus, and added further gravitas, along with some added complexity, as the meaty, leathery aspect were added to the fruit a floral from earlier in the evening. I could see drinking this wine anytime over the next decade or more. It brings great pleasure now, but has the material and balance for a long future.
