Opened a 2004 Pegau Cuvee Laurence last night to serve with a vegetarian dinner of baked potatoes and grilled asparagus. A winery purchase and travel souvenir of the best kind, I'd saved this special baby for a special occasion and the eve of Bob's birthday seemed a perfect time. Alas, this was one of those lackluster dud bottles. Flat, dull, lifeless, tragic. Waaaaaaa.

Damn. The regular 2004 was a stunning wine last I had it a few months ago.

A friend's bottle of this was stunning two years ago, too, so I know what we missed. We deserved better!

It’s not just you.

2006 Schloss Gobelsburg Riesling Heiligenstein...great vintage, great producer, great vineyard

Ponderous, boring wine.
