WTN: Russian Collusion

by Jenise » Tue Feb 26, 2019 1:23 pm

Popped a 2012 Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet last night to go with pelmeni (a Russian ravioli if you will, stuffed with chicken, mushroom and dill) in a light chardonnay cream sauce with pine nuts. One of two originally purchased, the other got opened about six months ago. Where that other was pale, this one was quite yellow, and though not nearly as sulfur/struck-match ridden as the first, that element remained more prominent than fruit at this point. Clearly, should have drunk them younger.

Too bad. Start of premox sounds like. I recently had a couple bottles of '07 that showed fine, that's the unpredictable part of the pox.

I agree. Btw, somewhere long ago I believe I read that Sauzet was one of the few producers who had not yet experienced the pox. It's probably affected everyone by now.
